Luke’s gospel tells us that Jesus announced His mission by reading the following passage from the book of Isaiah:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour”.
(Isaiah 61 v 1-2)
This mission is as relevant today as it was then.
That’s why we believe that the church should be right on the front line when it comes to matters of social action and justice.
CAP DEBT CENTRE
BCC is one of the founding partners of The CAP Bromley Debt Centre. Together with four other Bromley churches, we launched the Bromley CAP Debt Centre in June 2017.
The CAP debt centre is there to tackle poverty head on, to enable individuals who find themselves in financial difficulties to be set free from debt and to have the opportunity to explore a life transforming faith in Jesus Christ.
The BCC Foodbank started from humble beginnings but has grown into a real life-line for hundreds of individuals and families. Having been in operation for over 15 years, the BCC Foodbank distributes in the region on 10,000 items of food each year.
BROMLEY HOMELESS SHELTER
The Bromley Homeless Shelter is a project run by the ‘Churches Together in Central Bromley’ to help homeless people. With the help of many volunteers, we run two Night Shelters during the winter months, one in Central and one in North West Bromley.
Our goal is not just to provide temporary accommodation but also to help our guests to turn their lives around. We provide year-round guidance to homeless people or those at risk of homelessness.
HAVEN CAFE - MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUP
One in three adults suffer from depression, anxiety and/or social isolation at some point in their lives. The Haven Cafe is a BCC ministry that seeks to improve mental wellbeing by providing an opportunity for people to socialise and find acceptance and support.
